Dr. N.K. Chakraborty invited to the World Justice Project for developing a Global Rule of Law Index.

Dr. N.K. Chakroborty, Director, KIIT LAW SCHOOL, Bhubaneswar, has been invited to participate as an expert respondent in the prestigious project ‘The Rule of Law Index Report 2009’, under the WORLD JUSTICE PROJECT sponsored by the American Bar Association and 36 other global organizations. The motto of the World Justice Project Organization is, ‘strengthening the rule of law for the development of communities of opportunity and equity’. The Rule of Law Index is a new, quantitative assessment tool designed to offer a detailed and comprehensive picture of the extent to which countries adhere to the rule of law in practice. Dr. N.K. Chakroborty is one of the participants from 100 countries, whose expert opinion has been sought in this matter. The first administration of the Rule of Law Index, 2009 will be in  35 countries. The fundamental aim of this Index is to provide the comprehensive idea of the administration of the rule of law in the respective state. The esteemed Director shall heartily offer his knowledge and ingenuity and contribute towards developing of the Rule of Law index in  India in criminal justice perspective.

 

MoU signed between KIIT Law School & CRY, Kolkota

KIIT Law School has signed a MoU with CRY, Kolkata for collaborative research and programmes including internship of KLS students in CRY and conducted field survey on 20.12.2009 in two villages in the District of Cuttack and four villages of Khurda district.

 

Lectures on International Arbitration and Mooting Techniques

Prof. J. Martin Hunter, Professor of ADR, Nottingham Law School, U.K. delivered a series of lectures on International Arbitration and Mooting Techniques during November 12-14, 2009.

 

Memorial Lecture

KIIT Law School organized its’ 2nd Justice Y.V. Chandrachud Memorial Lecture on “Social Justice under Indian Constitution” on 13th September, 2009. His Excellency Shri M.C. Bhandare, Hon’ble Governor of Orissa inaugurated the Memorial Lecture delivered by Hon’ble Justice R.C. Lahoti, Former Chief Justice of India.

 

Seminar Lecture

A Seminar Lecture was delivered on 2nd September, 2009 by Mr. Cole Tony, Asst. Professor, School of Law, University of Warwick, U.K. on the topic “Issues & Conflicts in International Arbitration”.

 

Inauguration of Legal Aid Clinic:

Hon’ble Justice Shri I.M. Quddusi, Acting Chief Justice, Orissa High Court inaugurated on 29th August ’09 a Legal Aid Clinic at KIIT Law School in presence of Dr. A. Samanta, Founder KIIT Group of Institutions. The Legal Aid Clinic will provide affordable legal aid and legal representation in court of law, tribunal or body for persons who are indigent or for any other reason are unable to obtain the services of private legal practitioners.

 

ILSA Chapter launched:

A chapter of the International Law Students’ Association (ILSA) was launched on 1stAugust ’09 at the KIIT Law School under the KIIT University. Mr. Philipe Cullet, School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London inaugurated the chapter.

 
Hon'ble Justice M. M. Punchhi, Former Chief Justice of India & Chairman, Centre-State Commission interacted with the students on 23rd jan, 2009.
 

KIIT Law School stood Runners up in 1st National fest 2008, Moot Court Competition organized by University law College, Utkal University.

Alipak Banerjee, YashoVardhan Kochar and Soumita Adhikary of 2nd year bagged Runners up Trophy in the National Moot Court competition organized by University Law College, Utkal university.

KIIT Law School participated in Spiritus 2008, sports fest organized by the National Law School of India University, Bangalore.

 

International Youth Delegation to South Korea

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India and its Counterpart in Korea initiated a youth delegation program to South Korea for 10 days. There were a total number of ten delegates from India and Nidhi Singh, 2nd year of B.B.A LLB represented the eastern region of India from KIIT University. She was the only law student in the entire Indian delegation.

 

KIIT Law School stood 1st in Justice Raj Kishore Smriti Parishad Moot Court Competition held at Orissa High Court Bar Association Hall.

Mayuri, a 1st year student of KIIT law school bagged 1st prize and Satyajit Surjyakant Sen, a 2nd year student bagged 3rd prize in Justice Raj Kishore Smriti Parishad Moot Court competition held at Orissa High Court Bar Association Hall.

Nidhi Singh of 2nd year B.B.A LLB attended a National Conference on Judicial Review organized by the Eastern Book Company at the India International Centre, New Delhi.

KIIT Law School stood 2nd in the National Lawn Tennis competition which was held at IIT Kharagpur (Shaurya 08'). Mr. Archisman Mitra of 1st semester was adjudged the best player of the tournament & KIIT Law School team consisting of Sandip Mahapatra & Archisman Mitra got the runners up trophy.
